Weber Paves Hope
at the End of the Road
To share the spirit of Christmas, we’ve just adopted Marygrove,
a residential, multidisciplinary therapeutic program that provides
emotionally disturbed children, aged birth to 21, an opportunity
to change their lives. Serving more than 130 children, Marygrove
allows each child to find his or her pace and build a treatment
plan tailored to individual needs. The beautiful 49-acre campus
sits on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River.
Weber Elves Build Holiday Joy
We want to make Christmas memorable for each child. Our employees
are graciously donating their time and money. Here’s our plan:
- On Nov. 18, Weber employees, dressed as elves, will deliver
homemade cookies to the children and pick up a note from each
child that details what he or she wants for Christmas. The elves
will place these notes on three Christmas trees, one located in
each of Weber’s three service areas. Employees can remove
a wish from the tree and purchase the child’s gift.
- A few days before Christmas Santa and the elves will host a
holiday party at Marygrove and deliver the gifts to the children.
Every effort will be made to see that each child receives a gift
that is comparable in value. Extra donations will buy groceries
and gift certificates.

Mining Methane
Pattonville
High School is believed to be the first publicly funded high school
in the United States to mine a landfill’s methane gas for
heat.
A 3,600-foot pipeline carries the gas to the school from the Fred
Weber, Inc. 85-acre landfill. The energy from the rotting material
keeps all 117 classrooms and two gymnasiums at the St. Louis County
school at a comfortable 68 to 70 degrees F.
As the trash in the landfill decomposes, it produces gas. About
50 percent of the gas is methane, which can be captured for heating
fuel or electric generator power, said Ed Coe, an analyst with the
medthane landfill outreach program of the UnS. Environmental Protection
Agency in Washington D.C.
