| Fred Weber, Inc. is the
St. Louis area’s industry leader in heavy and highway construction
and one of the largest materials suppliers. Our specialties are
full-service concrete and asphalt-paving projects. In addition to
the service areas of construction and materials, we own a family

Turning Trash into Energy
For more than 20 years,
we’ve run a landfill, which is approved by the Missouri Department
of Natural Resources (DNR), at the North Quarry in Maryland Heights,
MO. The North Quarry accepts more than 2,000 tons of trash per day.
It not only provides a
place for community-generated refuse but also produces compost from
yard waste. The natural gasses produced in the landfill are used
to heat several greenhouses, the asphalt plant burner, a concrete
ready mix plant boiler and Pattonville High School.
We are currently researching
the use of the landfill’s methane gas to generate an energy
by-product using mini-turbines that will create electricity to supply
local needs to help in reducing utility costs.
