The New I-64 Project
In December 2006, the Missouri Department of Transportation awarded a contract to Gateway Constructors, a Joint Venture, to design and reconstruct roughly 12 miles of Route 40 from just west of Spoede Road to just east of Kingshighway. The largest single project ever awarded by the Missouri Department of Transportation, this is the first design/build contract ever let in the state of Missouri.

Design-Build Project
While this type of project has been used in the construction industry for a number of years, it is a relatively new approach for transportation projects. This approach on I-64 allows for the total replacement of nearly 30 bridges as well as new drainage, pavement, and sound walls to be completed much more efficiently, reducing costs and time when compared to a traditional bid-build project. This project was completed in December of 2009, one month ahead of schedule. Additional project information is available at http://www.thenewi64.org.
