Creve Coeur Lake Bridge - Substructure Construction - St. Louis County, MO

Fred Weber, Inc. was a subcontractor for this project and was responsible for constructing the foundations and substructure concrete for a cast-in-place segmental concrete bridge in an environmentally sensitive area adjacent to Creve Coeur Lake in St. Louis County, Missouri. The substructure was constructed in the river bottom grounds of the Missouri river. The foundations consisted of a reinforced concrete pile cap with h-pile founded on limestone. H-pile lengths varied from 60' to 110' long.  Sheetpile cofferdams with seal course concrete were utilized to construct the footings and columns below the water table. (7) cofferdams were constructed ranging in size from 170' to 180' long by 45' to 60' wide. 30' - 50' long sheets were driven at each cofferdam.  This project earned Fred Weber, Inc. the "Quality Concrete Award" by the Concrete Council of St. Louis.

METRO LINK Facilities 4 - St. Louis County, Missouri

This project was phase four of a five project expansion of the Metro Link Light Rail System through St. Louis County.  The project consisted of eight railroad bridges, approximately 20 cast in place retaining walls, 15 MSE walls, a tunnel underneath I-64, four stations, and all the grading required to complete this project.

Weible Lake Levee - New Melle, MO

This project consisted of constructing an earthen dam approximately 900 ft. in length and 90 ft. in height. The dam was constructed using 400,000 cy of embankment with an HDPE liner which was installed on a 2:1 slope, and covered with embankment at a 3:1 slope. The spillway is open channel with a concrete weir structure. The dam has a rock blanket on the front face to protect from wave action.  The dam impoundment is 12 acres.

Powell Lake Levee - New Melle, MO

The 90's

Ushering in a new era in 1991 for entertainment and business in metropolitan St. Louis, Fred Weber, Inc. finished the site preparation, parking lots and roadways for the new Riverport Office Complex and Amphitheater, in Earth City, Missouri.

The Missouri-Kansas Chapter of the ACPA recognized Fred Weber, Inc. for excellence by giving the company its annual Award for Paving. Several state contracts were completed in 1992 for Route 115 from I-270 West into St. Charles County, giving the company another chance to build for the community. The company received the 1992-1993 Quality Concrete Council Award for superior use of concrete on the new Route 115 project.

The 80's

Company officials cut the ribbon on November 4, 1983 to open the final segment of Route I-170. Meanwhile, other Weber teams worked on the construction of the 130,000 s.f. John E. Simon Hall for the School of Business at Washington University. Crews also began work on the 3 story, 1,200 space, reinforced concrete parking garage at the north end of the Gateway Arch grounds.

Now, long in the big leagues of highway construction, Fred Weber, Inc. players finally took to the field at Busch Stadium in 1984 to rebuild the turf drainage system under the playing field.

The company started a major improvement and safety project on Highway 21 in Jefferson County, (see photo: Highway 21 – Jeff County - 1987) starting with ground breaking ceremonies on July 2, 1987. Notorious for fatal accidents, the route had become known as “Blood Alley.” Today, the company has completed major sections of this 17.2 mile project, converting the hazardous road into a safer, modern four lane highway.

The 70's

Also in 1974, the company won the contract to build the final segment of I-270 between Telegraph Road and the Jefferson Barracks Bridge.

Contracts for work on Route 141 in both Jefferson and St. Louis Counties went to Fred Weber, Inc. in 1976. (see photo: 55 South over Meramec – 141)

The 60's

The completion of I-70 was marked by a dedication on July 28, 1961. The super highway extended from downtown St. Louis to St. Charles County.

1962 saw continued expansion of federal highways. Weber teams went to work on the first section of the new Ozark Expressway (I-55).

Clearing begins on the I-44 & 270 interchange in 1961 and construction continues west on Highway 44 towards Pacific, Missouri throughout the early ‘60s.

Other major projects completed during the 1960s included the Highway 270/44 interchange. (see photos: 270 & 44 Interchange – 1963 and 270 & 44 Interchange 2 – 1963) and the Highway 44/55 Interchange. (see photo: 44 & 55 interchange – 1960s)

In 1965 the cloverleaf and bridges were completed at the Highway 40 & 270 interchange.

During 1967, Weber extended I-55 southward through Jefferson County.

In July, 1969, Weber crews worked around the clock to complete the facelift on 5,800 feet of the 10,000 foot se/nw runway at St. Louis Lambert Airport. The job was started over a weekend while planes continued to take off and land. Workers placed 21,000 tons of asphaltic materials in a 44-hour period.
