FWI is contracted with Commercial Metals Company (CMC) to mine and ship auto shredder residue (ASR) from CMC’s monofill landfill located at Gilbert, SC, to CMC’s non-ferrous recovery plant at Lexington, SC, about 9 miles away. FWI performs preliminary screening of the excavated ASR to separate the minus fraction from the ASR material. CMC processes the excavated ASR to recover the non-ferrous metals. The processed ASR is now called Fluff. FWI ships the Fluff back to the monofill landfill for disposal into a lined disposal cell. CMC’s business approach for a long term contract allowed FWI to implement the most cost-effective plan incorporating a reversible overland conveyor system for moving the ASR and Fluff at the landfill site.
